Programme Introduction
Shandong, a coastal province in China, is committed to developing its marine sector, focusing on marine environmental technology, ecological protection and restoration, and the marine economy.
It features the country’s first Cross-Regional Cooperation Mechanism for Natural Resources and Ecological Environment Protection, as well as the Ocean University of China, which serves as a key educational base for cultivating talent in marine conservation.
In alignment with national strategies such as the 14th Five-Year Plan for Marine Ecological and Environmental Protection and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 — 'Life Below Water' : Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development — this 6-day, 5-night thematic study tour to Shandong (Qingdao and Weihai) will provide participants with hands-on learning experiences through site visits, workshops, institutional visits, and exchange sessions. By exploring local developments in Ocean science and the coastal economy, participants will gain an inclusive understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing coastal cities. The tour will culminate in group presentations proposing strategies to enhance public awareness of marine conservation or to foster the development of Hong Kong’s marine economy.
During the journey, you may
- Visit national education centers to explore more options in green education and careers.
- Conduct field studies in conservation areas, participate in research workshops, and engage in hands-on environmental and ecological conservation activities.
- Collaborate with local students in environmental volunteer services, make new friends, and promote cultural exchange.
- Tour national research facilities to enhance scientific knowledge and broaden perspectives.
